Print application instructions,

Print one (1) application per family also

Print one (1) Declaration of Section 214 Status for each family member.

Every family member over the age of 18 must sign the application and be present when turning your application into the MHA office!

No Applications accepted the first

seven (7) days of each month

Applications are only accepted

Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays

from 9:00am-4:00pm!

Below print one 214 for each family member applying for public housing

Before your application can be approved or denied by MHA you must provide:

 

Driver’s License/Picture ID for everyone over 18

​

Social Security Cards for Everyone

 

Birth Certificate for Everyone

 

Social Security (SS) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

 Award Letters

 

Child Support Documentation

 

MHA may need a copy of Court Documents Proving Custody

 

Check Stubs for past 2 months if working or SSI, SS, AFDC/TANF, VA, Royalties, Unemployment, Worker’s Compensation, Adoption or Foster Support, Family support, etc.…

 

If you have no other income than family or friends’ help, then a letter from them stating how much money they give you per month.  This Income includes but not limited to, any help to the family such as cash, paying bills, or providing clothing or supplies to the family.

You will also need to provide past Landlords information (phone #'s, and addresses) for your rental history McAlester Housing Authority (MHA) will then send them rental references 

​

Everyone over 18 years of age must be present when turning your

application into the MHA office located at 520 West Kiowa in McAlester!

This is when MHA does your first interview

​

You will get your spot on the waiting list when your application is turned in, the MHA intake coordinator writes down your date and time you turned in your application.   

​

MHA sends all applicants information to the McAlester Sheriff's Department for a background check. If they come back saying yes you have a record or have been fingerprinted before, MHA will send you a letter telling you to come to the MHA office to get your fingerprints taken.

You will have 10 days to respond to that letter, if no response you will be removed from the waiting list.

After MHA has finished the background check and received all information needed your application will be checked for eligibility.  

If eligible, MHA will then send you a letter of approval, when your name comes to the top of the waiting list you will be offered the appropriate sized unit. You will then have 5 days to accept or deny the offer. 

How Rent Is Determined if you are approved and offered a unit.

If Ineligible, you will receive a letter that states the reason for the determination and process for appeal if desired.

 (Note:  It is the applicant’s responsibility to notify McAlester Housing Authority (MHA) with any changes to contact information. If MHA was to reach out to offer you a unit, you have 5 days to respond either yes or no.

If MHA is unable to make contact, you will be removed from the waiting list)
